It was year 2018 in February, I was in my third semester of MS at La Trobe University in Melbourne when I met Jafar. I was heading towards my uni for morning lectures and a van arrived in front of the door of building B. A guy wearing a royal blue jacket and a grey cap got down and was unloading the stuffs from the van. I left the building and was going to the bus-stop for glider (bus service for uni students)
While unloading the stuffs he saw me and smiled. I smiled too. He asked “This is unilodge B correct?” I said “Yeah that’s correct!” He further asked “do you stay here?” I said “Yeah, I stay here, on second floor, I have to rush for my lecture, will see you around” He smiled and said “Cya!”
Thats it. Thats how we met first time. Since it was a start of the semester there were very few students in the hostel and I used to hardly catch up with anyone! Cannot recall exactly, though, on the same day or next day, I was roaming in the unilodge when I saw him seating on the dining chair of the kitchen.
We spoke about few minutes regarding our course curriculums, names, whereabouts etc. He was pursuing bachelor’s in health science. I was, as always, being curious learner, asking about the subjects, and why he chose the health science etc.
Latter we kept meeting in the kitchen for cooking, or dining, or eating or sharing meals together. Discussed lot of things about engineering, science and most importantly our love for sports-bikes!
Wait a minute, not only that we discussed Law of attraction as well, how universe works, the laws of Albert Einstein, and even about how cigarettes are injurious to health, how it creates tar in our liver! And right after this discussion he left for smoking, he told me “I am going for smoking” I said “Ah! you are taking tar in? carry on!” and He laughed. That was the entire communication we have had in very little span of time.
Well, I don’t think there was any topic that we didn’t discuss. He was completely focused on his studies, sorted in life, and was an intelligent guy then I have met after long time. I certainly felt good about it!
Rananjay, from Rajasthan India; was his roommate and they were quite good with each other. Studious, sorted, focused, soccer lovers etc. I think Jafar was a fan of Barcelona team. Anyway, that was the good semester we’ve had together.
Later I noticed from his behaviour that something has changed. All of sudden he started ignoring me, rarely used to mingle around in the kitchen, and thus we stopped talking with each other since August 2018, and then our fight or cold war started, and we’re still following it like a legacy. Why? we don’t know!
It was hardly 6 months of friendship and today it’s been 8 years that I have not seen him, didn’t talk to him directly, neither even tried to call him.
However, I still question myself what was it, that has made him changed so drastically? His behaviour was completely unacceptable to anybody and that was a reason of me not talking to him. Now when I look back I keep questioning it repeatedly.
Isn’t it obvious? a person who used to have Albert Einstein’s poster in his room, who used to have a book shelf in his room with almost all the books readily available surprisingly including Project Management, how is it possible to change so quickly!
I used to borrow books (I don’t remember the name) and a bottle of beer in the evening and enjoyed the reading in my room. How harmoniously we were together as if besties at least for few months! He was literally sounding like a baby Jeff to me!
This is human psychology that whoever it is, you get attached to a person in a pure or platonic way, if I may say so; if we’re of the same wavelength, what was wrong in that? However, we have experienced the jealousy around since the day we met. Why were people so jealous with us? were we sounding like creepy together? No we weren’t!
Now intent of writing all this is that people who come from this class as in who are educated, intelligent, work hard, sorted and have achieved certain levels in their lives, what make them change their minds in such a way that they keep attracting towards things that they’re aware that those things could cause a collateral damage to their lives!
It’s not about a religion, ethical or unethical, right or wrong, good or bad. It’s only about our most precious Life! How can we take it for granted?
Well, from where all these thoughts came in? I watched a movie Baby John! Beautiful movie and star casts. Like a movie we were babies too while pursuing our studies. Baby Jeff who later had a beautiful girlfriend baby Jenny. Anyway long story short, movie is a reflection of our lives, the society we live in, the stories of people who have faced the hard-ships which we never know.
DCP Satya Varma, brilliantly played character who gives the justice to the parents, but whats even amazing is he as a Father! He tries almost everything to protect his baby and I think thats what comes first, protect your people, your family, your children, your spouse, your parents, your friends or people whoever are close to you; they are the Nation!
Few people come in the life to change it completely. My life or even Jafar’s life has also changed, we were there for studies, and did it successfully, but then I am still clueless that what has made him change? or was he same? meaning overly possessed about almost everything that he comes accross.
Later when I came back home in India, I could sense him around through my friend circle, my family.Honestly I was shattered. I didn’t want his existence around me through anyone! It was year 2019, I wanted to shift delete whatever had happened and move on in the life. But I guess, it was really our destiny which had brought us till here, though he is an ‘invisible’ to me.
In initial days we used to fight like Bharat-Pakistan, because of one incident, plans of my life were completely changed, and life had turned around like a U-turn! Even his life was also changed completely. But then I still don’t know what has made him changed from where he couldn’t or we couldn’t recover fast.
It was again started in 2020 lock down, family clashes, lot of (mazha) fights, and then in workplaces. When I was working in Xpress-bees, my ex-boss jumped into our fights like a genuine help, concern about a fellow-colleague who was in trouble because of a guy who was not even an Indian! To this family no matter what I would wholeheartedly remain grateful for jumping in to my troubles, and trying the best to resolve it.
All I want to say is if anything has bothered to anybody, because of we two, I and Jafar, it didn’t mean to you, it was our chronicle fight that we have had, which we were genuinely trying to resolve, but some or the other reason, we couldn’t, and which was resolved by my ex-boss and his family.
Now, only concern I have is, since this has all resolved, let’s introspect if we’re not taking any wrong step which would hamper the unity, integrity of our Nation and its security. Nation comes first, and if we all maintain the rapport and the dignity of our Nation, nobody can harm it.
In my point of view, Jafar was very simple guy; if we stop stretching the things which are not necessary to prove wrong, my Ex-Boss,“वो उपरवाला ही था मेरेलिये”, who has now changed completely, a person who jumps in to help our fellow colleague, friend, or an assistant without having second thought about his own safety, how can I let anything happen to him? No, I won’t! He is still a mother figure to me, he is still a very dear friend of mine, the platonic friend just like Jafar!
This is our culture, the tradition being sanatani for that matter, will try my best to protect my people, my friends, my family! I think this is a valuable lesson that life has taught me, way more precious than what I learnt in Masters!
Jafar, being a science graduate, being a Phd-holder, all we need is the peace making, a deal making agreement, which would intact our health, both mental and physical, and then the wealth. Let’s try to cooperate like a real learned people, keeping our fights aside.
Here is the Formula : E = MC^2 ; Everything = Meaningful Cake² 🙂
